I year HD warranty is not enough by Kevin
How come Seagate warranty is only for 1 year ? Don't they have confidence in their product. My Samsung F3 1TB HD came with a 3 year warranty, Western Digital HD's come with either a 3 or 2 year warranty depending on the model. Seagate need to up their warranties IMO.

The warranty has dropped on all drives since the Thai flooding. Both Seagate and WD have dropped their mainstream drives warranty down from 3 years to 1 year. Please see: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/seagate-western-digital-HDD-warranty-Thailand,14322.html

is this as good as the wd caviar black?

On paper the main difference seems to be that the caviar black has about half the seek time on average (4.2ms vs 8.5ms on this). I doubt that you would notice much difference in normal usage scenarios.
