NETGEAR‘s 4-port Router lets you securely extend your broadband Internet connection to all of your computers. Each person on your network can instantly enjoy high-speed web access, file sharing, video streaming, head-to-head Internet gaming and MP3 downloads. This highly capable 4-port Internet router provides True Firewall protection: Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) eliminates potential threats to your network by scanning incoming files and requests for information, and Network Address Translation (NAT) conceals your networked devices from hackers. State-of-the-art filtering and controls allow parents to limit URL access and monitor Internet activities. Setup couldn't be easier – Smart Wizard automatically detects your Internet connection type, then the animated Smart Wzard Install Assistant and onscreen help guide you through each step. The sleekly designed RP614 Router is compatible with all Ethernet cable and DSL modems and virtually all Internet service providers.
Dynamic With the RP614 router you can enjoy ultra-fast Web-surfing from the get-go! Share your broadband Internet connection, files, and printers with up to 253 computers. Connecting is easy whether you have Windows®, Macintosh®, or even Linux® computers. Instantly distribute MP3s, digital movies, and photos. Port Forwarding controls make it simple to communicate using multimedia applications (such as NetMeeting™), host Web services, and participate in Internet games.
Safeguarded Lets you set allowable time-of-day usage for your children and establish content filtering according to web address or web address keyword. You can also choose to receive e-mailed reports of browsing activities and optional real-time e-mail alerts. A NAT/SPI firewall shields your network and networked devices against Internet attacks while VPN (Virtual Private Network) pass-through grants you secure access. Auto-partitioning on each port protects each computer from damaged network connections.
Powerful Ultra-fast 10/100 Mbps LAN and WAN ports automatically detects connection speed to optimize network performance (up to 200 Mbps with full-duplex) at a distance of 100m (328 ft). With double the memory and a substantially faster CPU (166 MHz) than many popular routers, this router is well equipped to distribute large files and media-rich content in the blink of an eye.
User-Friendly Even without networking experience, this gateway is easy for anyone to set up and use. Smart Wizard automatically detects your Internet connection type and Install Assistant, NETGEAR’s animated interactive tutorial, takes you smoothly through installation with simple prompts. I have NTL cable but no seperate cable modem (assume my set top box takes care of this) and so at the mo just plug the rj-45 into my pc via a usb device which my housemate and I share by the old plug and unplug method. would I be correct in assuming that this router is what we require to allow us to both use it at the same time? we already have working network cards from a failed hub experiment a while back...

Response by Hokum
Yes this would plug into the NTL box then act as a network router, once you plug it in you may need to retype your PID and password again on the NTL side as it has a new mac address (i remember i had to).

I bought this router and am very happy with it. I had a bit of trouble to start with but found a firmware upgrade for it which stopped it crashing. Also I had to limit my outgoing connection count to about 220 I think as above 240 was crashing my NTL Modem.
