Question  Question by Mohd

Can I connect this plug to a five port tp- link switch and then connect my three computers to it?

Yes this is compatible.

Thank you.

Excellent performance by DJ

Had very poor results from a similar product of different manufacture purchased from a well known electronics chain which I returned, so I was set up with wireshark at the ready to check these out.

First impressions: Nice robust quality mouldings.

Usage: Much more reliable than the others which would work for 40 minutes or so then drop out. Wireshark (TCPDUMP would do) showed that before they gave up, ARP errors started to appear. Now, Address Resolution Protocol requests use UDP (broadcast) not TCP/IP transmissions, so it looked like a pretty fundamental hardware problem in the design of the things, probably due to thermal drift, hence the delay before they gave up.

In contrast, and based on several days use captured by Wireshark, the ZyXEL units are stable and consistent.

Speed: Experimenting with sockets, I was not able to achieve the fastest performance with the location of units I wanted, but still it is more than acceptable for my purposes. Note that the error rate does not increase as they throttle back. Also, they stay cool to the touch, so the low power claims are probably justified.

Summary: Excellent product, and there is some rubbish out there.

Question  Question by Matt

I have an office at the back of my house but the modem is at the front, at the moment I cannot connect my pc to my modem as it is slightly out of range, would this be what I need to extend the range? The distance would be about 15m. All so would these provide the speed I need to play online?

Answer by stw3 on Thursday, January 3, 2013

This product creates a wired network using your domestic wiring so this will work as long as all your house hold sockets go into one fuse box.

Thanks for your question.

Excellent by Philip

These are excellent. I'm using these to provide internet access for my Ubuntu 12.04 machine. It was plug and go with no problems, just follow the setup guide, very easy. Flawless streaming of BBC iPlayer HD video, very good skype performance. I've found that it works reliably with TP-Link kit of the same speed. As I said, these are excellent devices. Thank you Aria!
