Question  This cpu by Giovy

How is this compared to the Q8400 quadcore CPU in your super special? In terms of performance? Games?

Answer by daniele on Saturday, August 6, 2011
Well firstly the Q8400 is socket 775 and this is socket 1156 so you need to choose the correct processor based on the socket on your motherboard. If you need the quadcore then go for that. If it is not a requirement, the i3 is generally better

upgrade for less.... its possible ! by brianthesnail

Hi guys
as we all know the core i7 and i5 range of processors are some of the best in the world however they are quite expensive and generally out of the budget of most people
however the core i3 range are good value and with the Intel Core i3 540 you can set up a modern budget gaming rig for less than £150
theres many people still using the socket lga775 cpu,s and motherboards, and the main problem with upgrading is its not just a case of buying another cpu... but you also need a compatible motherboard and if your motherboard is still using ddr2 ram then theres ddr3 memory to buy aswell..
however aria have made it possible to knock together a core i3 gaming rig, using this processor and the following motherboard and ram
1) ECS H55H-M Intel H55 Socket 1156 DDR3 mATX Motherboard ( 43022 )
2) 2GB Patriot Signature (1x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Single Channel Module (43726 )
granted its only a 2gb module running in single channel... however another stick will only set you back a additional £16 .... just enter 2 in quantity...
this all comes to just over £140... which isnt bad considering .... however i recommend replacing the patriot ram with the "4GB Patriot Viper II 'Sector 5' (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit"( 43731 ) ... this is a awesome kit and one of the best dual channel ddr3 kits aria have in stock.... its also well suited for overclockers with its comb style heatspreaders..... and again this will only set you back(with the cpu and mobo ) just over £160
basically guys with a budget of around £150 to £200 you could upgrade from the lga775 designation and bring pc gaming into the 21st century.... and this set up would keep you going for a good 2 to 3 years .... so give it some thought...
also were else could you buy such top end components and rock bottom prices.... aria of course ... so well done guys
cheers aria !

Question  Gaming by Avijeet

Is this the ideal processor for high level of gaming and newer games? If not, what would you recommend to work well with a Nvidia graphics card?

Answer by andrewn on Wednesday, February 16, 2011
This is a decent CPU for gaming, yes. Not the most powerful out there but a good balance of cost and performance. All CPUs should work fine with nVidia GFX cards really.
