Formatted size? by nathan
What is the actual formatted size? would it be the same as ST31000528AS : 931 GB
It would be around that size yes, it may be slightly more or less though depending on your OS and formatting.
fastest sata by mick
what is the fastest sata hard drive aria stock sata 111 / 6mbps ? if so what rpm
Probably the caviar black, qc 40242, which is 7200RPM. SATAIII / G6bps is slightly pointless for mechanical hard drives though, since none of them can maintain sequential transfer rates close to 3.0 GBps (Sata II) speeds. If you want high speeds, SSDs are the way to go.

Be jumpered to operate at SATA 150 for legacy equipment rather than SATA 300 speed. That is can it be forced to operate at 150Mbytes per second continuously rather 300Mbytes per second.
Yes
It will operate at SATA 1 speed
Buffer/cache? by Richard
On the main description it ays that this drive has a 32mb cache, but in the technical details it says it only has an 8mb buffer. I always thought that buffer and cache were essentially the same thing? Could you clarify this for me please?
Updated, the 32MB figure is correct. Technically a buffer and a cache are actually different, but the terms are generally used interchangeably. In hard drives the memory actually serves both purposes and is correctly called a 'buffer cache'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cache#The_difference_between_buffer_and_cache
