I currently own a 3450 and an AMD ANTHLON DUALCORE PROCESSOR which is 2.3GHz i was wondering if the cpu is capable of handling the graphics card or will i aslo need to upgrade that as well, also, since i own a 3450 will a 4870 be compatible with my motherboard??

While I cannot guarantee compatibility, if the 3450 works fine, then a 4870 should be ok. As for your CPU, a Athlon65 dual core should be alright, but could prove to be a bottleneck on games that use a lot of CPU cycles.
