Question  HP m7000 by Steve SW

Hi

I have an old HP m7000 with 4gb RAM, would it accommodate this processor and if so could you recommend a graphics card also?

Answer by Azhar on Tuesday, July 20, 2010
I am afraid it would not work, you would need a socket 1156 motherboard for this processor.

Question  CPU/Mobo/Memory combination by Nycoy

Hi,

I'm looking at the i5-750 (#37674) with the Gigabyte P55a-UD3 (#38607)Mobo. Your site suggests some G-SKill 1333 or 1600Mhz (#37609 and #37612) memory.
If I Get the 1600Mhz, will I get the benefit (of the extra Hertz) from this setup? Are there any specific Mobo settings to make to get those benefits?

One more thing, I also want to use a "Asus ATI Radeon HD 5770 "CuCore" 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card". With all these things inside a case, will a single case fan and the stock CPU cooler be sufficient, or will I need multiple fans?

Thanks!

Answer by stevenl on Tuesday, May 25, 2010
1600Mhz ram wouldn't give you much benefit, unless you were overclocking the CPU, then 1600Mhz ram would give you more headroom to overclock.

As for cooling, multiple fans would be recommended if possible.

Question  Response to Being Rushed by bombkangaroo

Hi,
The frequency at which the memory runs is the Base Clock (133mhz) multiplied by the memory multiplier. (maximum of 10x multiplier for this CPU) So whatever speed the DDR3 Dimms are rated for, they will always run at 1333Mhz and will work fine.

However, it may be worth buying faster RAM if you want to overclock the processor. As you need to change the Base Clock (some motherboards may allow you to increase the multiplier also), which will speed up the processor, and will also affect the frequency at which the RAM runs.

For instance, changing it to 160mhz will produce a CPU clock speed of 3.2Ghz (20 x 160mhz) and a RAM frequency of 1600Mhz. (10x160Mhz)

Question  Compatible? by Indigo

Hey I am thinking this CPU with 37774 Motherboard. Can you suggest some memory preferably 4GB.. Cheaper the better?
Thanks.

Answer by stevenl on Monday, May 17, 2010
I'd go with these: #37609.

Top Processor Great Overclocker! by Philip

Picked up one of these with the current deal, popped it into a Gigabyte P55-UD5 (quickcode 37723) board with some ocz gold series 1600 ram (quickcode 34387) and had it overclocked to 4.0Ghz (20x200) within a couple of hours with a cheap aftermarket air cooler (quickcode 20729).

Running prime95 stable for over an hour, Temps in high 70's low 80's, feels like it has plenty of juice left in it, but need to improve my cooling more first to get it ;)

Would definately reccomend!
