Comments, Questions & Reviews:
Nice idea - bad execution by Chris Frost
Let's start off with the obvious - the SV400 is a cheap PSU.
You can tell as soon as you pick it up - it's very very light and the metal cabinet construction is flimsy. Once installed I still felt concerned at how much the back panel flexes when the power cable is inserted. It does not inspire confidence. Those looking for a PSU with a power loop through socket on the back for their monitor will be disappointed too. What you see in the picture on-line is not what you get. There is just a single power input. There is now power loop through socket. To be fair, Aria do say that the pictures aren't accurate.
The 20+4 pin thing intrigued me. It is a 20pin ATX connector with a 4pin additional plug on a short fly lead. It's a neat idea so 2 stars for that.
Now for the biggest bugbear - the fan noise. OMG!!! This thing is loud and I'm not being picky here. I measured the fan noise with a sound meter. It is a deafening 54dBA at 50cm (20") running an old P4. This is embarrassingly loud. Here's a comparison: The Hiper 425W PSU HPU-4S425 (quick code 30570) which runs at 20dBA - pretty much silent when you're sat 1 or 2 mtrs away from the case. The SV400 would need to be about 30m away to sound as quiet. "Low noise" it definitely is not!
Final notes, mine appears faulty. There was a strong smell of burning from the PSU when fired up, then the hard drive burst in to flames - literally! I don't know yet if it has killed the PC.
20 +24 pin by sternhagen
20+4Pin Connector but says 20+24pin in sales overview.
which is it? I want to use with 24pin MOBO.
Also how many SATA power connectors.
Fit mATX by David
Will this PSU fit a mATX case?
probably - depends on the case
