Question  more than one computer by steve

will this product allow more than one computer to read from the NAS at the same time? i live in a shared house and we all need common media to share files and access them at the same time.

Answer by stevenl on Saturday, November 14, 2009
No, only one at a time.

I would recommend a dedicated NAS device instead. Such as: #38144.

Question  Question by Mark

I wish to save family photos, and then have them available for others on my home network to view. Is there a way to set up folders on the server to be "read only", to prevent the kids from accidentally deleting files?

Answer by stevenl on Tuesday, June 9, 2009
You could get the file properties to read only.

Question  Issues on Vista 64 by DanL

Hi, I bought one of these today and got the drivers installed on my work laptop running XP Pro 2002 SP3. It takes a little while for it to detect the hard drive attached but it works.

I've now come to install the drivers on my home PC running Vista Ultimate 64 Bit SP1. The software installs, and I can run it and it does detect the USB Server and the attached drive. However when I try to connect I get the error message "USB Server bus does not exist. please uninstall usb server and reinstall it".

Has anyone else experienced this, any ways around it?

Wow,

This is quite simply the best gadget I have bought in ages, I have used the Buffalo NAS boxes at work, which are excellent, but cost a few hundred quid, and this thing is comparably as good for £25.! No drivers are required to make it pop up on the network, it sees every USB connector I have plugged into it including a techy gadget that will access a 1TB SATA drive [ formatted to Fat32 I grant you ], two or more PCs can access it at the same time, there is a bit torrent client built in as well as an Xbox media server, and all in all its awesome.

It does indeed do exactly what it says on the tin, and allows any USB device to be plugged into the thing and pop up at a share either by IP or DNS, you type in a user name and away you go. Don't bother with any poxy Netgear / Dlink supposed NAS that needs a driver installation for every PC on the network. This thing pops up with an IP address in about 3 seconds and the software you use to find it is java based, so you don't actually need to install anything. It can be a DHCP server, but even knows if it should not be a DHCP server because there is already one in operation.

Cannot recommend them highly enough, get one of these and then go get a Western Digital WDAVP00BE media player [ search elsewhere for this ] which will output the contents of your USB drive to your telly. Grab the stuff with the Darkstar and then swap your USB drives about when required, solves all the problems and ticks all the boxes.
