Budget card, great performance by LordReserei
VTX?...heard of them? I hadn't until recently finding out they used to be called VisionTek.
I was on a tight budget and needed a graphics card upgrade to go with my CPU and motherboard upgrades that I mentioned in another review for the AMD Phenom II x6 1090T Black Edition.
In Cinebench 11.5, this card reach 55fps and that outperformed other cards such as my previous HD5670 1GB (understandably) and the HD4870. In real world applications like gaming, which this is what most people would be getting it for - here's a few results
Farcry 2 (DX10): Ultra Settings, AA x8, AF x16, 1440x900:
Min: 37.98fps
Avg: 52.73fps
Max: 85.49fps
Resident Evil 5 (DX10): Everything maxed out, 1440x900
Min: 62.1fps
Avg: 77.8fps
Max: 123.3fps
Again, that's only at 1440x900 - if you intend to play the game at a higher resolution, this card might only let you play at medium or high rather than ultra settings.
The card at idle stays at a steady 26C, and at full load reaches around 53-55C with the fan set to 70% which is a little noticeable sound wise but a lot quieter than my previous Asus EAH5670's fan - that sounded like a jet taking off.
The fan set to 50% is whisper quiet with this card.
I also overclocked the GPU frequency a little bit from 850MHz to 900MHz for a few extra frames per second in games and my card has been stable. I used the Diamond HD6770 OCX version as reference for overclocking.
Worth the money? If you're on a budget, definitely
Do I recommend it? Hell yes
Something to note though, in the preview image - it looks like the VTX HD6770 1GB Rev.1 but I received the Rev.2 version (Rev.2 has better cooling than the Rev.1). Aria may need to update the preview image.
Here's my system specs for those interested;
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit
CPU: Phenom II x6 1090T 3.3GHz (overclocked to match the 1100T)
RAM: 8GB (2x4) DDR3 1333MHz G-Skill Ripjaws
Mobo: Asus M5A97 Pro
Video card: VTX HD6770 1GB (GPU:900MHz/Mem:1200MHz)
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB (partitioned)
Case: Cooler Master Elite 330 w/ 2x 120mm fans
The Phenom II x6 1090T, Asus M5A97 Pro and VTX HD6770 1GB were all purchased for around £292 with next working day delivery from Aria
Is this able to by Dazzharvey
Was wondering if this 2.1 pci express card would work on my motherboard - it is a pci-e 1.0 acer rs690 from an acer aspire M3100
the reason i ask is i need a replacement card (this one) and psu (500W Mushkin Enhanced Volta ATX2.3) and thought i'd get both at once, i tried reading up on some specs and forums but got very conflicting information from sites i visited, I was wanting to know if it would work before going ahead with the purchase
I am aiming for a complete overhaul of the chip, mainboard and ram after christmas sometime, i'd do it all at once normally but only have a small budget this year
Yes, it would work - just at PCIe 1.0 speeds instead of PCIe 2.1 speeds
Question by Ryan
I've recently bought the graphics card but after the couple of weeks I have had it for I don't think it's working properly. The screen flickers on my 2nd screen every now and then, and when playing battlefield 3 beta it freezes up and says "no signal" on the screen. I've tried playing the game with a 9800gt and on-board graphics they both work, just this graphics card isn't working..
