Double Dissipation Edition:

Ghost Thermal Technology:

Hydrocell Thermal Solution:
HydroCell Technology is based on the same principles as heat-pipe technology. A liquid coolant is vaporized by a hot surface with the resulting vapor condensing on a cold surface, which recirculates back to the hot surface. The recirculation process is controlled by a wick system. The coolant is water, but because the chamber is evacuated to a very low pressure, the Hydro Transport process of vaporization occurs at a much lower temperature than the normal boiling point. The complex wick arrangement inside the module controls the flow of water and water vapor so that the system can be used in any orientation.

HD value for money by BobX
I've had one of these for about a month now and thought time to do a review. I upgraded from a Gigabyte 460SOC because that card just couldn't cut it, and the 7970 is my first AMD graphics card.
First impressions not good - the XFX drivers were a bitch to install and I also needed to swap in a 8pin PCIe power cord on my modular PSU. I've also got a small issue that I can't see the BIOS splash screen anymore, but that's probably something dumb I've done in the motherboard settings. When I ran a graphics benchmark (FutureMark) the 7970 also got quite loud - then again my 460 was super quiet, so maybe I was being unduly harsh? I also had to contact XFX support (about the issues with the drivers) and they responded quickly with a good answer.
I've since done some tweaks - e.g. blitzed away the XFX drivers for the "vanilla" AMD ones, which work a LOT better. Also relocated a card that was next to the graphics card, and it's now running quieter and cooler. On the noise front, it's only when you really start to hammer it that it gets ... "vocal", the rest of the time it's very quiet, however even when "noisy" the card isn't going to have you reaching for the earplugs, but you're aware that it's having to push itself. Even then the fansink seems to be able to drop back to "stealth" mode quite quickly.
This thing is a beast - it's great to be able to hit those "High Quality" or "Ultra Quality" settings on Medal of Honor etc. And then there's the software bundle - if there's a better one out there than this XFX/AMD/Aria one then I'll be VERY surprised. I got a slightly different one, since I got Nexuiz and Medal of Honor:Warfighter as well. So with the FarCry: BloodDragon code (when it comes) that's SEVEN games, some of which are "A list" titles - easily about £100 worth. Like I said ... unbeatable!
The driver issues maybe knock this back to a 4/5, but the quality and breadth of that software bundle more than makes up for it.
