    This is connects straight to the normal power (e.g hardrive power?)

    It has a 3 pin connector on it, so that it can plug into your motherboard, and let your bios report on fan speed and other wonderful things. This said, you can use the adapter supplied with the akasa fans to plug it straight into the PSU, just like you want :)
