The Icyboxes work great... So long as you don't use them through the Firewire interface! There's a problem with the Firewire chipset used in all Icyboxes (and a number of other external HDD caddies made by other companies) which is pretty serious - I plugged in a brand new Seagate into one of my (then) new Icyboxes via Firewire a while ago, and within a day it had junked it. The problem stems from the Firewire chip inside the device not being able to cope properly with transfers of very large files, the load is just too intensive for the chip and it struggles to keep up, causes some horrible problems and eventually the hard drive controller just goes nuts trying to keep communications up with the Firewire chip... And paf: knackered drive. Of course, if you don't mind all your hard drives getting the click of death... And then dying... Use the Firewire. The boxes work fine on USB2 though, just AVOID Firewire like the plague! I of course only found out too late, but a quick Google of the issue will highlight the problems for any prospective buyers. Let me stress again: this isn't Icybox-specific, there's a NUMBER of different manufacturers all using the same problematic chipset. I'm just amazed the problem isn't more widespread.

I don't get it, the descriptions are confusing. whats the difference between this and BAY-IB-350US?? Also does this take IDE or SATA Drives?? Thanks

i already have an external cdrom caddy that connects via firewire. this icy box says it has 2 firewire ports on it... why? would i be able to connect the icy box to the pc and my old caddy to the icy box to run them in parralell?

Highly recommended - looks amazing and works great. Plug and Play so no driver needed. Everything you need comes in the box. So impressed I'm going to get a DVD external case and 2.5" portable HDD case from same manufacturer. Are you going to stock more of their products?

Liked the first one so much, that I bought myself another one. Highly recommended. Tip: Use the IEE1394/Firewire instead of the USB2.0 connector if you can, since it seems to less CPU cycles.
